‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ Official Cast Reveal with Table Read Photo

'Cyborg' Cast for Man of Steel Sequel and Justice League Movies
After a couple of months of rumors and whispers of a casting search for a "young, athletic black actor" it seems Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. found him on Broadway as stage actor Ray Fisher will be playing Victor Stone, the young man who becomes Cyborg, in the Man of Steel sequel according to Variety.

DC Comics' Variant Theme for July is BATMAN
It's no surprise that on his 75th anniversary Batman will be occupying covers throughout the DC Comics line in July in the latest variant cover theme of the month announced. ART SHOW: Artist Places Real Street Signs at Locations from Rap Lyrics

Gallery1988 is proud to announce it's newest exhibit, the first Rap Signs show from NY artist Jay Shells. Jay's street art has been featured on The Huffington Post, Complex, Vice in the LA Times, by the Associated Press and within 100's of other outlets. He picks his favorite hip-hop lyrics that mention street intersections, produces them as official street signs, then places them at the referenced location. Darwyn Cooke's BATMAN BEYOND Short Premieres at WonderCon (Video)
As part of the continuing 75th Anniversary of Batman's first appearance DC Entertainment premiered an animated short by Darwyn Cooke based on the Batman Beyond animated series. In this truly short short Bruce Wayne and Terry McGinnis battle a very familiar opponent. Without giving too much away look for the Easter (how timely) eggs at the end.

WONDERCON Invades Anaheim This Weekend
One of the best cons on the west coast, WonderCon, returns to Anaheim, California with all the pop culture, cosplay, comic books and entertainment you can fit in a convention center. This year looks to be another winner in the town that Disney built. With more A-list comic book talent, special guests, a masquerade and a Children's Film Festival the con makes for an eclectic pop culture event.
'Batman: Assault on Arkham' Animated Movie Trailer Released Featuring the Suicide Squad
There's another DC Universe animated feature heading to store shelves in the Fall with Batman: Assault on Arkham. Based on the Batman: Arkham video game franchise the trailer features Batman (voiced by longtime fan favorite Kevin Conroy), the Joker and Amanda Waller (in her original comic book version) with Task Force X, also known as the Suicide Squad.
The action packed video shows the Squad in action with Harley Quinn in the forefront along with Deadshot. With the Son of Batman video releasing in May the year may not include a DC Comics live-action film but the usually reliable animated division has two highly anticipated features to crow about.
Assault on Arkham is directed by Jay Oliva (Justice League: War, The Flashpoint Paradox) and voices by Tara Strong (Harley Quinn), Troy Baker (The Joker), Tony Todd (Killer Croc) and Grey DeLisle (Catwoman).

Watch the 'Batman: Strange Days' Animated Short by Bruce Timm
As previewed here before, DC Entertainment has released the Bruce Timm short Batman: Strange Days that debuted last night on the Cartoon Network. The black and white video features Batman battling a giant and Dr. Hugo Strange on an island while trying to save their female hostage. Timm returns to the retro style that made his Batman: The Animated Series famous as part of the 75th anniversary of Batman's debut. Enjoy the video below:
Amazon.com Acquires Comixology
In some somewhat surprising news, giant online retailer Amazon.com has come to terms to acquire pioneering digital comics distributor Comixology. Terms of the deal were not released but this move broaden's Amazon's reach into the growing digital comics and graphic novels sales market beyond their own Kindle store. Many questions remain in regards to how this will affect the respective customers of each company and revenues to comic book creators. Comixology stated that they will retain their identity as a subsidiary to Amazon. The deal is still subject to many closing conditions and won't be final until mid-year. COMIC BOOK Pull List: Shutter, Deadpool, Batman Eternal, Lumberjanes, and More
This week's offerings at your local comic book store and digitally are pretty eclectic and fresh. Let's start with the newly certified Guinness World Record holder for most comic book characters on a single cover, Deadpool #27. The Merc with a Mouth ties the knot in front of 232 familiar guests in the special oversized issue featuring a story from regular scribes, Gerry Duggan & Brian Posehn as well as nine previous writers from Deadpool history - Fabian Nicieza, Mark Waid, Joe Kelly, Christopher Priest, Jimmy Palmiotti, Frank Tieri, Gail Simone, Daniel Way and Victor Gischler.
Warner Bros Still Vague on the Whole Cohesive DC Universe Thing
As a DC Comics fan it can be mightily befuddling when the publishing arm can reboot the entire 52 book lineup, the television division has hit shows with more on the horizon but the feature film side slowly transitions from one franchise at a time to another while getting boat raced by rival Marvel Studios. Granted Warner Bros. Pictures is in the movie business while Marvel Studios is in Marvel movie business. You won't see Marvel producing a romantic comedy or urban dance-off film unless they feature Avengers. WB needs the occasional tent pole film from DC Entertainment but it also has to make dramas, comedies, thrillers, etc. Marvel is producing their properties for themselves and their corporate parent, Disney. It's no wonder that WB isn't sold on bridging DC television products with their feature film counterparts.

Captain America 3 and Man of Steel Sequel Face Off In May 2016...for Now
At one time Marvel reserved May 6, 2016 for the release of an unnamed feature. Meanwhile, at Warner Bros. the Man of Steel sequel was sitting on a July 17, 2015 premier date in a year crowded with blockbusters. And all was seemingly right with the world. Then the sequel added Ben Afleck as Batman and the internet cried the ugliest cry face in the history of hero casting. The internet's misogyny index spiked when little known Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman. There was fear and confusion as how could you have so many heroes in one film (please disregard that The Avengers movie was ever made). This is chaos! Bloggers were beside themselves. So WB perhaps deemed things were moving too fast and they moved the release date to...May 6, 2016 in order to “help fully realize the vision.” Curious date but life went on.

Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, Tao Okamoto Added to 'Batman vs Superman' Cast
Warner Bros. released a press release announcing the additions of Oscar-winning actress Holly Hunter (The Piano, Raising Arizona, The Incredibles), Callan Mulvey (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 300: Rise of an Empire, Zero Dark Thirty) and Tao Okamoto (The Wolverine) to the cast of Zack Snyder's unofficially titled Man of Steel sequel, 'Batman vs Superman'. The release explains these actors will play characters that are "newly created for the film" (wink-wink) and included glowing comments from Snyder about working with Hunter and the rest. COMIC BOOK DAY: Today's Pull List 4/2

Another light week for me but there are some notable new titles worth a look. Most notable is Max Brooks (World War Z) and his graphic novel about the riveting story of the highly decorated, barrier-breaking, historic black regiment—The Harlem Hellfighters. Since being enthralled by this courageous group of fighters at age 11 and many failed screenplays years later Brooks took to the graphic novel as the medium to bring his vision to light. Aided by illustrator Canaan White, they tell the incredible journey of the 369th infantry regiment from stateside to the battle fields of World War I.
Scarlett Johansson is Luc Besson's Next Action Hero in 'Lucy' (Video)

The name Luc Besson is synonymous with action thrillers. The French writer/director is responsible for films like Leon: The Professional, The Transporter, Taken, The Fifth Element among others. What distinguishes Besson from others in the genre is his inclusion of bad-ass female protagonists who are equally capable to unload a 30 round clip on a cadre of bad guys as any male lead. Anne Parillaud (La Femme Nikita), Zoe Saldana (Colombiana), Penelope Cruz & Salma Hayek (Bandidas), Milla Jovovich (The Messenger: The Story of Joan Arc) have all had top billing in those action pictures.

The Riddler Has Been Cast for Fox's 'Gotham'
Considering there isn't anything silly about this news coming across EW on April 1st and being corroborated by other sites, it seems Fox is still busy adding more actors for the rogues gallery for the upcoming Batman prequel television drama, Gotham. The Riddler, or rather the young man who becomes him, Edward Nygma will be played by Cory Michael Smith (Dog Food, Carol, Camp X-Ray).
He's described as "a brilliant young forensic scientist working for Gotham PD and a penchant for speaking in … rather cryptic language. Inquisitive, eccentric and outgoing — yet socially awkward — he wants to be liked, but he doesn’t quite know how." He'll be credited a guest role in the pilot with options to become a regular.
Smith joins the Bruno Heller-produced show along with Ben McKenzie as young detective James Gordon. Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith, Zabryna Guevara, Sean Pertwee, Robin Lord Taylor, Erin Richards, David Mazouz, and Camren Bicondova also star.

April Fool's Day on the internet can be funny but mostly frustrating. Especially, for a blog like this that relies on breaking news, movie scoops and entertainment stories from reputable sources. But of course everyone likes to have a laugh and some sites most fake stories for the LOL's and so we can't trust anything being reported today and we've heard some doozies. So in order to relieve our anxiety about what's real and what's not we're going to retreat to our happy place - cat videos.
