THE FLASH Review (S1E7): 'Power Outage'

A show like The Flash as fun and light as it can be needs to be dark at times to add some weight and depth to the superhero series. ‘Power Outage’ delivered on the dark side with villains like Blackout and the Clock King. Some legitimate threats to Central City that helped reveal some interesting facts along the way as Barry suffered an outage of his own.

Deadline reports that the network has ordered that production on the DC Comics adaptation of a supernatural detective and ‘Master of Dark Arts’ be halted after 13 episodes essentially ending season one without a full season pick-up. Up in the air is season two which could still happen with enough ratings support with the rest of the run.

After Domestic Violence Arrest RAT QUEENS Artist is Off the Series

Rat Queens artist and co-creator, Roc Upchurch, was recently arrested for domestic violence. The incident occurred on October 31st and was charged with misdemeanor battery in Henry County, Georgia. The details and statements from both Upchurch and his ex-wife can be found at Bleeding Cool. Today, writer and co-creator Kurtis J. Wiebe revealed that Upchurch will no longer illustrate the fan favorite fantasy comic.

REVIEW: Witchblade #179 by Ron Marz, Laura Braga, and Betsy Gonia

Witchblade #179 as well as the series under Ron Marz and Laura Braga has been a joy to read every month. It's been as comfortable and as inviting as being wrapped in a fleece blanket in a comfy chair by a warm fireplace while sipping on a mug of hot cocoa. That's not to say it isn't an exciting often action-packed adventure but in this issue in particular it relies on the chemistry between Sheriff Sara Pezzini and Deputy Kate Rooney which makes #179 accessible to new readers as well as a nice detour for fans.

It seemed fitting that a new character named Cupid would be part of an episode dealing mainly with the emotional longing of love and love lost. Sure, there's action and drama but it's really about Ollie facing the limitations of his heart and letting go.

The Flash Review (S1E6): 'The Flash is Born'

'The Flash is Born' was a mixed bag of cliches and some good character development. The latest particle accelerator-created baddie was Tony Woodard aka Girder who can transform his body into solid steel. But to the writers that wasn't good enough because he just so happened to be the childhood bully to Barry Allen. So you knew right off the bat what the trajectory of his storyline was going to be. Jerk in a flashback, jerk with powers in the present, then ultimately defeated by the good guy.

UPDATE: Two more names have been added to the list of actors vying for the titular roles of 'Jessica Jones' and 'Luke Cage' in Marvel/Netflix's superhero series. Marin Ireland (The Divide) and Cleo Anthony (Divergent) will reportedly be testing also as reported by Deadline.

Gotham Review (S1E9): 'Harvey Dent'

At this point we know Gotham is short on subtlety and big on world building. Character development? The jury is still out on that one but the titular character in 'Harvey Dent' could have been blended in better but was too busy playing to the back of the theater. Some critics complain about overacting on the show and it's true to some extent but Nicholas D'Agosto wasted no time smirking his way to virtual self-parody.

Cupid Makes an Impression in Promotional One-Page 'Arrow' Comic

On tonight’s episode of Arrow, 'Draw Back Your Bow', an obsessed archer named Cupid is stalking the object of her affection, the Arrow himself. REVIEW: The Fade Out #3 by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips

I don't know if there are any superlatives left for the great work Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips have done. Criminal, Sleeper, Fatale are some of the best crime noir comics the industry has ever seen. The Fade Out is turning out to be a worthy addition to their legacy as issue three demonstrates an expansion of the Hollywoodland studio system that provides all the pulp and drama you'd expect from this dynamic duo.

Copperhead #3 continues to be one the best sci-fi mysteries in comics and the case is about to break open. What started as a western in space is turning into an intriguing police drama. Clara Bronson as the newly installed sheriff is learning that she's not entirely in control as she thought. It all leads to some surprising revelations by the end.

'Breaking Bad' Director, Michelle Maclaren, in Talks to Direct 'Wonder Woman' Movie

It sounds like Lexi Alexander was correct when she told an interviewer that Warner Bros had indeed offered the directing duties for the stand-alone Wonder Woman to a woman recently. Variety has learned it was 'Breaking Bad' producer/director Michelle MacLaren who is currently in negotiations with the studio to bring the Amazon princess for her long overdue solo film.

First Look at Katie Cassidy as Arrow's New Black Canary

We've known for some time that Laurel was going to take her murdered sister Sara's Canary persona as season 3 of CW's Arrow has progressed. She's hellbent on revenge to find to find her killer and has starting training with Ted Grant aka Wildcat, boxing gym owner and vigilante (?). This is the first look at what she'll look like as the billed Black Canary.

The Flash Review (S1E5): 'Plastique'

One of the great things about The Flash is its commitment to evolve and evolve quickly. In five episodes Barry Allen has accepted his role as hero with a responsibility to help others while still learning what he’s capable of. At the same time learning to deal with meta-humans who were also born out to the particle accelerator explosion. Initially, the obscure villains were designed to serve one purpose and that was to be early punching bags to essentially sharpen Barry’s skills. An undercard of purposely underdeveloped characters to serve as practice dummies. Then came the calculating Captain Cold, one of Flash’s longest running rogues, who was an actual equal foe we’ll see more of in the future. So not all meta-humans or villainous characters are created equal. The case in point is this week’s meta-human and human bomb, Bette Sans Souci aka Plastique (Kelly Frye).

With so many good books out this week this is the time to dip into your kid's college fund and replace that t-bone with ramen and get a stack of comics.

Gotham Review (S1E8): 'THE MASK'

This week’s crime of the week involves a corporate sanctioned fight club that leads to a death and brings in Jim Gordon and Harvey Bullock to investigate. For a police procedural this is the weakest point of the show. A Wall Street banker pits applicants against each other for job openings as a metaphor for the vicious dog-eat-dog world of finance. It’s these type of weekly investigations that really distract from the far more interesting mob drama that serves as the recurring subplots. We know the major crime will be solved, often times predictably, while yearning to know what Fish, Cobblepot, Maroni, and Falcone are up to instead.

Sony is actually considering this. At least that's the word from Latino Review whose editorial staff greenlit the story. Would you see an Aunt May movie without Spider-Man in it?
