You don't have to go to the Big Two publishers to find compelling superhero stories. In fact, you don't even have to leave your house to get your hands on one. Take for instance the upcoming digital release of 'Eccentrix' #1 by James Maddox, Rob Dumo and Nicholas Wentland. It's an effective dark comedy about an alien hero whose heavy-handed approach to justice has his fellow league members worried that he's too much of a loose cannon.

We haven't seen or heard much about Oliva Munn (her romance with Green Bay Packers QB Aaron Rodgers notwithstanding) in regards to her role of Psylocke in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse since her casting was announced. In fact we don't know how big of a role the character plays in an already star-studded film. Thankfully, Munn took to Instagram to share a brief video showing off her sword-wielding skills.

The penultimate issue of Archie vs. Predator didn't spare the gore but did bring to mind how on earth is Archie and the gang going to stop such a brutal killing machine. So far some of Riverdale's most beloved and not so beloved characters have lost their lives in this unexpected crossover that reads like a monster movie from the '50s. The devilishly clever and suspenseful tale by Alex de Campi and Fernando Ruiz bring the best of two genres to life.

In this crazy golden age of comic book movies, there's no shortage of news and rumors landing on fansites and blogs. Some rumors are far-fetched (Joaquin Phoenix as Doctor Strange) or mildly interesting (Spider-Man casting search). Marc Andreyko has put our favorite she-devil through a lot during this five-issue miniseries from Dynamite. After sailing the seas in this reimagined "steampunk" alternative reality, Sonja gets enveloped in the dastardly plans of the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein. Yes, that Dr. Frankenstein. Our fearless heroine nearly escaped with her life after a gruesome shark attack so she's exhausted with only the help of a"frankenfied" version of Captain Nemo by her side. The series may have been light on the steampunk aspect, but there's been no shortage of action and adventure. The conclusion, Legenderry: Red Sonja #5, is no exception.

If there is such a thing as an underdog in comics 'The Mighty Crusaders' might be one. A superhero team created by Archie's adventure imprint during the Silver Age it became lost in the shadow of Marvel's Avengers and DC Comics' Justice League of America leading to a short shelf life. In fact, several attempts to revive the series, even one under DC Comics, resulted in single-digit runs. Archie is trying once again through it's Dark Circle Comics imprint to spark a meaningful resurgence with a 'New Crusaders: Dark Tomorrow' one-shot.

The latest 'Swords of Sorrow' miniseries features Dejah Thoris and Irene Adler. The time and era mashing event from Dynamite and Gail Simone brings these two very unlikely characters together in the overall plotline of defeating the evil Prince. Issue one is really Adler's story whose literary impact in the real world came from being the only woman to outsmart Sherlock Holmes in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's stories.
