Batman / Batman Joker

Is the New Batman Movie Connected to Joker?

Rumors have been swirling around the internet about the new Batman movie, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader. One of the biggest questions on fans’ minds is whether or not this new film will be connected to the critically acclaimed 2019 movie Joker, directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix as the iconic villain.

The Joker Controversy
The controversy surrounding Joker stemmed from concerns that the film glorified violence and could potentially inspire real-life acts of violence. Despite these concerns, the film was a commercial and critical success, grossing over $1 billion at the box office and earning numerous award nominations.

The New Batman Movie
The new Batman movie, tentatively titled The Batman, has been described by Reeves as a “noir-driven” detective story that will focus on a younger version of Bruce Wayne’s character. The cast also includes Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Colin Farrell as The Penguin.

Connected Universes
One of the reasons fans have speculated about a connection between Joker and The Batman is due to recent trends in Hollywood towards interconnected universes. Marvel’s Cinematic Universe has been wildly successful in weaving together multiple characters and storylines across various films. DC Comics attempted a similar approach with their Extended Universe but faced mixed reception from audiences.

However, it’s important to note that both Joker and The Batman are being produced under different banners within the DC Comics universe. Joker was produced under DC Black Label, which focuses on stand-alone stories outside of continuity with other DC films. Meanwhile, The Batman is being produced under DC Films, which is responsible for producing films within continuity with each other.

Conclusion
While it’s possible that there could be some subtle nods or references to Joker in The Batman, it’s unlikely that the two films will be directly connected. Reeves has emphasized that his film will be a stand-alone story and not a part of any larger continuity. Additionally, the tone and style of the two films are vastly different, with Joker being a character study and The Batman being a detective thriller.

Ultimately, fans will have to wait until The Batman’s release on March 4th, 2022 to see if there are any connections or Easter eggs to Joker. Regardless, the anticipation for both films is high and audiences can expect to see plenty of exciting action and drama from their favorite DC Comics characters.
