The year 2015 was a big one for Marvel Studios, with several highly anticipated movies hitting theaters. Let’s take a look back at what Marvel movies came out in 2015.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
The first major Marvel release of the year was Avengers: Age of Ultron, the sequel to the massively successful 2012 film. Directed once again by Joss Whedon, the film brought back all of our favorite heroes, including Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and the Hulk. This time around they were up against a new villain – Ultron, an artificial intelligence that becomes self-aware and decides that humanity needs to be eradicated.
The movie was action-packed and featured some incredible set pieces, including an epic battle between the Avengers and Ultron’s army in the streets of Sokovia. It also introduced several new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), such as Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver.
Overall, Avengers: Age of Ultron was a worthy follow-up to its predecessor and set the stage for what was to come in future MCU films.
Later in the year came Ant-Man, a film that had been in development for years but had gone through several director changes before finally landing on Peyton Reed. The movie starred Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a former thief who becomes the new Ant-Man after being recruited by Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas).
Unlike most other Marvel movies, Ant-Man had a much smaller scale (no pun intended), focusing on Scott’s personal journey rather than saving the world from destruction. That being said, it still featured some thrilling action sequences that made great use of Ant-Man’s unique shrinking abilities.
The movie also introduced audiences to Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), who would go on to become the Wasp in future films.
In conclusion, 2015 was a great year for Marvel movies. Avengers: Age of Ultron continued the story of Earth’s mightiest heroes and set up some important plot points for future films, while Ant-Man introduced a new hero with a unique power set and showed that Marvel could make successful movies outside of their usual formula.
With more MCU films on the horizon, it’s clear that Marvel Studios shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
